Variable Cylinder Management (Auto transmission only)
Accord models powered by the V-6 engine are equipped with the latest generation of Honda's Variable Cylinder Management™ - or VCM® - technology. This sophisticated fuel- and money-saving system takes advantage of the fact that the V-6 engine doesn't need the power of all six cylinders at all times. When demand on the engine is low, it deactivates cylinders to use less fuel. So when you're cruising at a steady speed, the engine may operate as a 3-cylinder powerplant. Then, if you slowly accelerate to a higher cruising speed, the Accord engine activates 4-cylinders. Of course, maximum V-6 power is always available when you want it, such as for acceleration and climbing steep hills.
