Variable Cylinder Management
Your Pilot is equipped with the latest generation of Honda's Variable Cylinder Management™ - or VCM® - technology. This sophisticated fuel- and money-saving system takes advantage of the fact that during normal driving, the Pilot's V-6 engine doesn't need the power of all six cylinders at all times. When demand on the engine is low, it deactivates cylinders to use less fuel. So when you're cruising at a steady lower speed, the engine actually becomes a 3-cylinder powerplant. Then, if you slowly accelerate to a higher cruising speed, the Pilot engine transforms into a 4-cylinder. Of course, maximum V-6 power is always available when you want it, such as for acceleration and climbing steep hills.
