Advanced Compatibility Engineering Body Structure
The Civic features an Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure to enhance occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal crashes. The ACE design utilizes a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle. This enhanced frontal crash energy management helps to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment and can help to more evenly disperse the forces transferred to the other vehicles in a crash. In 2013, the structure of the Civic was further enhanced to improve performance in a narrow offset frontal collision (less than 25% overlap) as simulated by the IIHS small overlap front test. The 2014 Civic 2-door and 4-door models, like the 2013 models before them, received a "Good" rating on this and every other IIHS test, with the Civic Hybrid earning a Top Safety Pick+ rating when equipped with Forward Collision Warning, and all other Civics earning a Top Safety Pick rating.
