Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) Operation
The Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system consists of an electric motor sandwiched between the engine and transmission. The main purpose of the motor is to assist the engine when accelerating, thus offsetting the need for a larger, less fuel efficient engine. The vehicle can also run on the electric motor only in slow, parking lot type operation, and the electric motor starts the vehicle in motion when the engine is stopped upon idle. When the vehicle is decelerating and braking, the electric motor becomes a generator, creating electricity to be stored back in the battery. Watch the video to learn more.
